The Toughest Monster

Story

After greeting the player into his home, Sir Jones mentions that one of his clerks found hints about a huge crypt located below the Aston graveyard. However, his clerk is too cowardly to explore it himself so Sir Jones would like you to do it instead.

After accepting the quest Sir Jones tells the player that he expects you to slay the toughest creature that they can find.

Quest Objectives

To complete this quest, the player must:

• Find the three pieces of the Amulet of the Sun and combine them,
• Equip the Amulet of the Sun so that you can kill the level 24 Vampire Lord.

Quest Walk through

WARNING: The crypt contains fire traps and spike traps that can easily kill the player. Fire traps deal damage on contact and also ignite the player causing damage over time. To stop yourself from burning you have to either use a pool of water, recall or use potions or have another player heal you until the fire stops. The reach of the fire traps are marked on the ground in front of them. The spike traps are found in many of the dark corridors and deal large amounts of damage if the player walks over them. Marks on the ground give hints to pass them safely. You can also spot the spike traps on the ground from the small holes where the traps are. Warriors, Seyans, and Battlemages should also be careful of using warcry as many doors don’t block warcry in this area so it could attract the attention of other Vampires nearby.

Before going to the crypt you MUST go to Sir Jones first and say “Aye” to him to start the quest. If you don’t then you won’t receive experience for killing the Vampire Lord.

The crypt is located in the graveyard north-west from the main area of Aston, opposite Lugh’s shop.

If the player heads straight for the Vampire Lord to kill him, when his health runs out he will disappear in a puff of smoke. This means that you need to find a way to allow you to kill him.

There are various books in the area that give clues on how to defeat him. To defeat him you need to find the three pieces of the amulet of the sun and combine them. While wearing the amulet you are able to kill the Vampire Lord.

The first piece is found in the area with the multiple rooms each with a row of coffins. The coffin with the piece is the one that has a cross above it facing sideways.

The second piece is found in the rooms with the fire traps and pools of water. One fire trap blocks your progress so you have to run through it and use the pool of water to stop the fire damaging you. It’s a good idea for Warriors to warcry at least once so that their warcry shield can block some of the damage.

The final piece is hidden in the Vampire Lords coffin. You can either kill him so that he disappears in a puff of smoke then grab the piece or run past him to get it. He has a long re-spawn timer so it’s a very good idea to run past him to get the piece.

Now that you have all three pieces, combine them and wear the amulet. You can now kill the Vampire Lord. After you kill him you will receive experience and a message saying “Congratulations on slaying the toughest(?) creature down here!” that confirms that you’ve done it correctly.

Return to Sir Jones to start the next quest.
